Add in a bit' of Soul

specter

I don’t think about myself all that often from a third party perspective. Figuring out how others will see my images and interpret the message I intended is being best communicated. It is a bizarre way of thinking about things, but it is also really helpful from an artistic side. If I can better understand the way I look at the world and how someone else sees that same worldview then it might help me make better art.

My goal is to put my soul into each image in some way through creativity. Slowing down in landscape photography to question what makes me enjoy a scene so much. Asking the questions of why I should or should not include different parts of an image based on whether they contribute to my view. This helps communicate my message more effectively to the viewer.

I don’t want to sound full of myself. Not every image is going to have the same level of connection to myself. Some photography I put out into the world is simply capturing something creatively that I saw as beautiful. The most impactful and therefore ‘best’ work I have produced is something I put some part of myself (philosophically speaking) into.

Allowing the image to communicate mood and emotion visually is something I like to think of myself as more talented at than doing so in writing. Talent aside, it has a value in being a different flavor to indulge in artistically as you appreciate it with your eyes. Reading words or hearing them spoken is very different from seeing and taking a trip through an image.

“Art is when you hear a knocking from your soul — and you answer.” ~Terri Guillemets
