A lot has happened in 2019, but much of it hasn’t been photography related. I haven’t even purchased any new photography gear in an entire calendar year! In my personal life I have gotten married, moved, and earned a promotion. We got married in Hawaii, which is a great photography location, but the trip was not meant for taking landscape images. So, while I haven’t really done anything major in photography in 2019 it doesn’t mean I wasn’t able to capture some really nice images!
There is a lot that goes into photography beyond pressing a button. Working backwards from the final image, there is printmaking, post processing, the settings used in camera at capture, etc… Before any of these things can occur there is one crucial step every great photographer has mastered. The art of composing a purposeful image with the right elements at the critical moment in order to tell a story.
While in the UK in June I visited the National Portrait Gallery. It featured various famous pieces done of people like George Washington, Queen Elizabeth, Ian McKellen, Martin Luther, Mary Queen of the Scots, etc… There was a nice addition of photography to the museum though, which was a surprising and refreshing thing to see.
